Later is built with a local-first philosophy. We believe your AI conversations belong to you, and our privacy practices reflect that.
No Data Collection
We do not collect, track, or store your personal data, chat history, or browsing habits. We do not have user accounts, and no data is ever sent to servers owned or controlled by us.
Local Storage
Your API keys and extension preferences are saved securely and exclusively within your browser's local storage.
Local Sync (Obsidian)
When you export a conversation, Later sends the formatted Markdown directly to your local Obsidian vault via your local network (Local REST API). This data never passes through a middle-man cloud.
Third-Party AI Services (OpenRouter)
If you use the AI-powered summary feature, Later sends the relevant chat text directly from your browser to the OpenRouter API. We do not have visibility into or control over OpenRouter's data retention practices. We recommend reviewing OpenRouter's privacy policy to understand how they handle API request data.
